Willow Creek's DuPage campus donates books, food
The DuPage Campus of Willow Creek Community Church donated $2,000 of books and paper products to the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) for distribution to area needy children and seniors through the HSP's programs.
The Humanitarian Service Project, a charity founded in 1979, distributed more than 273,000 lbs of food and gifts in 2010 to needy children and families in DuPage and Kane counties.
According to Senior Pastor Bill Hybels, Willow Creek Community Church is committed to “unleashing unprecedented levels of compassion” into the world. The 10 boxes of books and 2 pallets of paper products part of the church's ongoing effort to serve the underprivileged children and families. Willow Creek Community Church has five campuses in the Chicago area.
Karole Kettering, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the HSP, said, “The members of Willow Creek Community Church's DuPage Campus have been awesome partners with the HSP in alleviating the suffering poverty brings to the impoverished children, families and seniors in our communities. Whenever we need them, they are there!”
The books will be packaged with new toys, school supplies, games and party fixings into a 25-30lb Birthday Box to create a “special day” for 700 needy children in the HSP's Children's Birthday Project. The paper products, along with a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats and non-perishable foods totaling 90 lbs., will be delivered by volunteers directly to the homes of each of the 120 low-income seniors in the charity's Senior Citizen Project.
