Compromise needed in Island Lake
As our village mayor and trustees battle it out over who is right concerning who hires and fires the village’s legal firm and police chief, we the residents are the ones left footing the bill.
At what cost does our mayor go to for being right? As Mr. Diamond spoke last evening, it is the mayor who makes the final decision. Our mayor could just veto the bills that were recently passed, and wait and see who is elected on April 5.
She could negotiate on what is more important to the well-being of the village, keep our current law firm or our current police chief? To me this is not difficult; lawyers are a dime a dozen. The legal firm represents the village, not Ms. Herrmann.
Sadly it appears Ms. Herrmann feels the only option is to sue our trustees -- even though it has been published she would be willing to compromise.
At what cost will her “being right” cost the residents of this village? And in the end will it really matter when the village has filed bankruptcy due to her litigation?
I urge both sides to compromise, or there will be nothing left to be “right” about.
