Don’t spend without way to pay bill
The Daily Herald’s March 10 edition provides an especially obvious example of what’s wrong with Illinois’ spending. On Page 6 we’re told that Aurora will receive an $8 million grant to build a music garden at RiverEdge Park. Nice idea.
But on page 8, we read that Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 will approve short-term borrowing to make payroll because they’ve only received $48,000 of an expected $8 million funding from the state.
When will legislators and any governor realize that not every “good idea” is mandatory? Illinois must suspend any spending which is not already contracted or required by law until those commitments are paid in full.
