Wheaton Jr. Women's Club brings 'full circle moment' to Humanitarian Service Project
The Humanitarian Service Project, a charity founded in 1979, distributed more than 273,000 lbs of food and gifts in 2010 to needy children and families in DuPage and Kane counties.
“The Wheaton Junior Women's Club donated $9,000 to seed the HSP's Building Fund in 1992 when the charity was still operating from our home” said co-founders Karole and Floyd Kettering. “We were able to build a substantial fund over the years around that generous donation that allowed us to move into a 15,000 square-foot office and warehouse facility. It is a “full circle moment” for the club's members to see our new Center for the first time”.
Dyani Dohlen, president of the Wheaton Junior Women's Club, said “In addition to supporting the mission of the HSP for 21 years, they have been designated our Service Organization of the Month since the charity helps hundreds of low-income children, seniors and families in the local area.”
The women's club also brought 6 students from the Wheaton-Warrenville South High School's Key Club to participate in a wrapping party for gifts for the charity's Children's Birthday Project. The 700 impoverished children in the program receive a 30 lb Birthday Box filled with toys, books, games, school supplies, stuffed animals and party supplies.
