For Elburn village board: Grabarek, Hastert, Symowicz

Daily Herald Editorial Board

Five people are running for three seats on the Elburn village board. Attorney William Grabarek is the lone incumbent, has the benefit of experience and he has not been a rubber-stamp. Public works employee David Gualdoni, attorney Ethan Hastert, customer service rep Audrey Symowicz and Richard Garcia are also in the race. Grabarek has been involved in village government since 1993, beginning with a 10-year stint on the plan commission. He’s been a passionate proponent of maintaining basic services for residents in tough economic times, and also showed that passion with his stance on banning video gambling. Hastert, who has never held elective office though he ran unsuccessfully for the Repolican nomination for Congress, has the legal and political chops to help lead Elburn. He says his top priority is fiscal responsibility because “a balanced budget produces smaller government, less spending and lower taxes.” Symowicz and Gualdoni have both worked for the village and see room for improvement on everything from the employees’ manual (Symowicz) to more fuel-efficient vehicles (Gualdoni). All have voiced strong passion about the village and have offered variations on ways to keep it upwardly mobile. Grabarek and Hastert are easy choices, and we think Symowicz has the ability to ask the tough questions and stick around for the answers. They are endorsed.
