Cops: Caretaker stole, forged patient’s check
A Crystal Lake woman faces felony charges after she stole a check from the patient she was caring for and wrote it out to herself, police said.
Leanne Springer, 35, of the 300 block of Harold Street, was working as an at-home caregiver for an elderly person when she stole the check and deposited it into her own account, according to authorities.
Family members of the victim learned about the theft, and a report was filed with the McHenry County sheriff’s office in October 2010.
Springer admitted to stealing the check and forging the victim’s name, according to authorities.
She is charged with forgery and unlawful financial exploitation of an elderly person. Bail was set at $25,000.
