6th-graders compete in Dist. 15 2-Ball contest
More than 300 sixth-graders participated in the annual District 15 2-Ball Competition, which was held Feb. 8-9 at the Palatine Community Center.
In 2-Ball, teams of two players shoot from various spots on the floor to try to accumulate as many points as they can in two different minute-long rounds.
For the district competition, each elementary school was represented by five sets of girls and five sets of boys, and medals were awarded to the top six teams in both the small and large school divisions.
In the boys' competition, Jack Grochowski and Ryan Dowd from Stuart R. Paddock School won first place in the large school division, and Adam Schyvinck and Nathan Hill from Pleasant Hill School won first place in the small school division.
In the girls' competition, Ally Worthem and Emily Kurka from Hunting Ridge School won first place in the large school division, while the small school division finished in a tie.
The teams of Katie Dalton and Jayla Kackley from Gray M. Sanborn School and Karolina Sas and Sydney Heinrich from Thomas Jefferson School each received first-place medals.
