Wheaton boxer Lee training in Ireland

Notre Dame boxing champion Mike Lee of Wheaton has traveled to Dublin, Ireland, where he will resume workouts under renowned trainer Ronnie Shields over the next two weeks.

Lee has traveled to Dublin as part of world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux’s training camp which also includes co-trainer Creed Fountain and strength and conditioning coach Brian Caldwell. Rigondeaux, the WBA Super Bantamweight champion, will defend his title against Willie Casey on March 19 in Dublin.

The 23-year-old Lee, a top light heavyweight prospect, improved his professional record to 4-0-0 with a first-round knockout over Pablo Gomez on Feb. 26 at The Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The victory came in front of a packed house of Notre Dame alums and Chicago area supporters.

Details of Lee’s next bout are expected to be announced soon.

A native of Wheaton, Lee graduated in 2009 from the University Of Notre Dame with a degree in finance. While at Notre Dame, Lee won the school’s Bengal Bouts boxing tournament three years in a row. After winning the Chicago Golden Gloves, Lee was signed by Top Rank Inc.
