For Fox Lake village board, Koske, Murrey and Schmit

Four community-minded candidates are vying for three seats on the Fox Lake village board.

Incumbent Greg Murrey believes the village has a “golden asset” in being surrounded by water, and fellow Trustee Nancy Koske, a former mayor, touts a municipal pier as a way to get boaters off the lake and into downtown to eat and to shop.

Challenger Robert Ebbert supports the village’s long-standing effort to attract a hotel, and he also suggests some village beautification.

Challenger Donny Schmit seems the biggest tax watchdog of the group, in favor of ways that increase revenue without reaching into residents’ wallets.

Each candidate is already active in village government: Murrey and Koske as trustees, Ebbert as a member of the zoning board and Schmit as a planning commissioner. Koske and Murrey both deserve another term. Ebbert would be a fine choice for the third seat, but we give a slight nod to Schmit for his wide-ranging community involvement.
