AT&T Mobility to lay off 60

AT&T Mobility Services LLC in Schaumburg is planning to lay off about 60 workers by late April, according to documents filed with the state.

The company plans to consolidate the call centers in Illinois, and it’s moving operations currently located at 930 National Parkway in Schaumburg to existing centers around the state, said AT&T spokesman Marty Richter.

“We are not closing our Schaumburg facility,” said Richter. “The consolidation affects employees on one floor.”

Those affected are Mobility Customer Service call center employees and they assist Mobility customers with questions. The business has about 16,000 employees in Illinois.

Most of the affected union employees will have the option to follow their work to existing call centers in Springfield and Rantoul. AT&T is offering a relocation incentive to those who choose to move.

Those union employees who choose not to take the transferred job and leave the business will be paid severance according to their labor agreement, according to the company.

All of the affected employees are free to apply for vacancies in other parts of the company.

“We’re in an extremely competitive business, and must always look for ways to better achieve efficiencies and consolidate operations,” Richter said.
