Celebrate St. Pat's at St. Baldrick's fundraiser in Arlington Hts.

Forest View Alternative School will sponsor its second St. Baldrick's Day at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 17, in the theater of Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights.

Staff and students from FVAS, Vanguard School and the Newcomer Center will donate money, get a haircut or have their heads shaved, all in the name of fighting cancer. A minimum 10 inches of hair will be collected from participants and donated to Locks of Love, an organization that provides wigs for cancer patients.

Krista Paul, District 214 internship coordinator at Forest View Educational Center, has invited students from Empire Beauty School in Arlington Heights (who are also students in districts 214, 211, and 220) to assist in the snipping, shearing and shaving.

Last year's event well surpassed organizers John Schwarz's and Scott Scholten's goal of $1,000.

“We ended up raising almost $16,000,” said Schwarz.

Schwarz, other staff and six students toured Children's Memorial Hospital and the cancer center on Feb. 22, and also brought the gifts that were made during last year's event.

Potbelly Sandwich Shop in Rolling Meadows is supporting the St. Baldrick's event, and the community is invited to help, too.

For information about the St. Baldrick's Day event at Forest View Educational Center or how to donate money or hair to Locks of Love, contact Schwarz at john.schwarz@d214.org.
