Algonquin woman dies after crash

A 45-year-old Algonquin woman who was a passenger in a car driven by her husband died after a car crash on Pyott Road Tuesday evening.

Bridget Prate was a passenger in a 2009 Nissan driven by her husband, Anthony Prate, and heading north at 6:27 p.m. when the vehicle apparently crossed the center line and hit a 2008 Chevrolet driven by William Hinde, 51, from Carol Stream, said Lake in the Hills Police Sgt. Robert Harper.

After the initial crash, the car spun off the road and hit a tree and fence, officials said.

Bridget Prate was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin where she was pronounced dead, Harper said.

Anthony Prate was taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry, Harper said. A hospital representative said Wednesday night he had been discharged.

Hinde was treated and released at the scene of the crash, Harper said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Pyott Road was shut down between McPhee Drive and Oak Street for about two hours while police investigated the crash.
