Man tried to coax boys into car near Mount Prospect school, police say

A man tried to convince five boys to get into his car Monday afternoon near Euclid Elementary School, according to Mount Prospect police.

The event occurred at about 4:15 p.m. when a man driving northbound in the 1200 block of Wheeling Road pulled over to talk to the boys, ages 10 to 11 years old, as they walked home from school, police said

“The male driver opened the front passenger side door and told the boys to come to the car and close the door,” according to a statement from police. “All five boys walked away from the car and the car left the area northbound to Euclid Avenue.”

The boys then reported the man to Euclid teachers.

The man’s vehicle was described as a dark colored four-door vehicle, possibly brown, purple or black. The driver is described as a Hispanic male, in his late forties or early fifties, with gray hair and possibly a goatee. The man spoke to the boys in Spanish, according to police.

The Mount Prospect Police Department urges parents and children living in the area to be extra vigilant in the days ahead and to call 911 if they see a man or vehicle matching the description.
