Cops: Burglars set Hanover Park house on fire

Salvador Espinosa

Three men face felony arson charges after police caught them fleeing the scene of a Hanover Park house fire set Sunday night, police announced Monday.

Two Hanover Park men and a Streamwood man, all in their early 20s, were stopped in a getaway car driven by a 19-year-old Streamwood man a short distance from the fire on the 27W400 block of Devon Avenue about 10:45 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

Witnesses spotted three men running from the burning residence before hopping into a white GMC Jimmy, according to police.

A further investigation revealed that the men had burglarized the house and set the home on fire before fleeing, police said.

Hanover Park firefighters arrived at the scene along with police officers about 10:40 p.m., and as firefighters began to put out the flames, witnesses informed them of the fleeing suspects.

An officer located their vehicle at Route 20 and County Farm Road and arrested the men.

Omar Angon, 22, of the 7400 block of Briar in Hanover Park; Raul Perez, 20, of the 2500 block of Mark Thomas Lane in Hanover Park, and Pedro Sandoval, 24, of the 200 block of Timber Trail in Streamwood, have been charged with felony arson and residential burglary.

They are due in bond court today.

The man suspected of being the getaway driver, 19-year-old Salvador Espinoza, of the 1500 block of McKool Avenue in Streamwood, was charged with driving without a valid driver’s license and will appear in court today, where an immigration hold will be placed on him, according to police.

Angon and Perez also had immigration holds placed on them.
