Schaumburg has more bridge taxes than bridges to spend it on

Recently I was reviewing my property tax bill to make sure I was getting my exemptions when I looked over the taxing fees and noticed my share toward Road & Bridge Maintenance was $13.24.

We have approximately 75,000 people living in Schaumburg in 25,000 homes. Let's say each home is paying roughly $13 per household. This would raise roughly $325,000 to pay for this bridge maintenance.

I've been living in Schaumburg since 1968. The bridge I'm talking about is located on South Springinsguth next to the parking lot of Calvary Baptist Church and is less than 100 feet long.

If I am correct, this is the only bridge in Schaumburg that the village is responsible for; all other bridges (Roselle-Meacham) are the state's responsibility.

I don't think it takes this amount of money to manage this bridge. What I would like to propose is to use the extra money from the bridge fee and apply it toward buying snowmobiles for the police and fire departments (with at least one snowmobile for each firehouse).

This past winter was another record breaker. At age 70 I've lived through all of the big ones since the 1960s to today. Who knows what next year will bring. How many calls to 911 did Schaumburg receive? How many babies were delivered by a policeman or a fireman?
