Mount Prospect man’s death tied to machine accident

A Mount Prospect man died from multiple injuries after a Bobcat accident at a Hanover Park wastewater treatment plant on Friday, according to the medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy preformed on Saturday also ruled the death accidental.

John Fergus, 51, was pronounced dead at 2:27 p.m. at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.

He was an electrician at the plant at 1200 Sycamore Ave. run by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. The district and the Illinois Department of Labor are investigating the death, said Patricia Young, a spokeswoman for the reclamation district

“We are a family and we’re all struggling with this right now,” she said. “Our employees are all very saddened. It’s such a shock. We feel terrible for this family.”

Young was not sure how long Fergus worked for the water district. She did say he had six children.

The Hanover Park Police Department declined to comment. Young said there would be more information available on Monday.
