Bartlett teen charged with theft
Footprints in the snow and drag marks left by a snowboard led police to a teenager they say burglarized two vehicles Friday in Streamwood.
Police responding to a car burglary report went to a nearby residence, whose owners allowed officers inside. Inside, they encountered 17-year-old Pawel Szymulewski, who was charged with two counts of burglary, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Robin Murphy. Szymulewski, of the 200 block of Burton Drive in Bartlett, does not live at the address where officers found him.
He later admitted taking a racing snowboard and a GPS system from two different vehicles, Murphy said during a bond hearing in Rolling Meadows Saturday.
Cook County Court Judge Jill Cerone Marisie set bail at $2,000 and imposed a 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew on the teen, who authorities say received a police station adjustment in 2011 for retail theft. Officers may submit juveniles charged with minor offenses to the informal “station adjustment” instead of formal charges.
Szymulewski was sentenced to community service in 2008 for disorderly conduct and again in 2010 for underage drinking, Murphy said. He next appears in court on March. 11.
