House near Buffalo Grove school catches fire

Firefighters battled a house fire across from a Buffalo Grove middle school Friday afternoon during dismissal time.

Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the second floor of the house at 803 Highland Grove Drive when firefighters arrived. The homeowner called 911 just before 2 p.m., according to Battalion Chief Doug Postma of the Buffalo Grove Fire Department.

The department set up its command post in front of Tripp Middle School, so students were dismissed from the back of the school. The school implemented its emergency plans, and buses were rerouted, Postma said.

“They were very cooperative and organized at that,” he said.

No injuries were reported.

The blaze was extinguished 25 minutes after firefighters arrived. A total of nine departments responded to the fire, Postma said.

Investigators are still probing the cause of the blaze.
