I-294 hit-and-run with injuries snarls traffic
Illinois State Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident on Interstate 294 that injured a number of people Wednesday night.
Police said the driver of a semitrailer left the scene of a five-vehicle accident about 7 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-294 just north of Willow Road.
Two southbound lanes were shut down for about an hour as emergency crews responded to the crash, according to police.
The exact number of people sent to local hospitals was unknown, but police said “a few people” were transported with nonlife-threatening injuries.
A description of the truck was not available.
