CHS students join in Read Across America March 2

On Wednesday, March 2, students and teachers are invited to the Richard M. Kamm Library and Resource Center, located at West Chicago Community High School, to celebrate reading in honor of Dr. Suess' birthday.

The LRC will be hosting the event which includes a literary costume contest, silent reading, gently-used book swap and a read-aloud. An hourly raffle will take place to give away gift cards from Borders. Popcorn will be served during the read-aloud.

CHS teachers are excited about the event. Mrs. Leahy has been celebrating "Read Across America" for the past three years with a “lock in and read” the first three periods.

This year, the LRC staff and English teachers are joining forces for a major event promoting the enjoyment of reading throughout the day. The staff is looking forward to hosting a platform where students can share their own creations during the read-aloud.

The National Education Association is building a nation of readers through its signature program, NEA's "Read Across America." Now in its 13th year, this year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources. Visit NEA's site at www.nea.org/readacross/.
