Wood Dale man charged in brother’s stabbing

A 19-year-old Wood Dale man was being held in DuPage County jail Sunday after police said he stabbed his brother during a dispute at their home late Saturday afternoon.

Carlos Gallegos of the 400 block of Catalpa Avenue in Wood Dale was arrested Saturday night and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after stabbing his 22-year-old brother in the abdomen, said Wood Dale Deputy Chief Greg Vesta.

An Elmhurst Hospital official contacted police after the 22-year-old victim was dropped off at the hospital’s emergency room at around 5:15 p.m. Saturday with a stab wound, Vesta said.

The victim originally told police a stranger had attacked him somewhere in Wood Dale, but a further investigation revealed Carlos Gallegos had stabbed him at their home, police said.

The victim remains hospitalized with nonlife threatening injuries, Vesta said.

Carlos Gallegos was taken into custody without incident at around 10 p.m. Saturday when he returned home, according to police.

The driver who dropped the stabbing victim off at the hospital was not charged.

Gallegos is being held in DuPage County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
