Body found in Schaumburg subdivision pond
Schaumburg police said there is no indication of foul play in the death of a man whose body was found in a pond behind an apartment complex Sunday.
Sgt. John Nebl said firefighters responded after a citizen reported something in the water in a pond near 2550 Barkwood Road, in the Tree House Apartments.
Nebl said a diver from the Schaumburg Fire Department entered the water and determined that the object was a human body.
The victim, described as an adult male, was brought to shore and pronounced dead at the scene.
Schaumburg detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation.
The identification of the victim and cause of death are pending an autopsy expected to be conducted Monday by the Cook County Medical Examiner.
Schaumburg Battalion Chief Michael Diaferia said firefighters responded at 12:35 p.m. to the development, north of Algonquin Road and west of Meacham Road.
He said the fire department responded as it usually does, with an engine, a ladder truck, a rescue squad, an ambulance and a battalion chief.
Diaferia said the matter was turned over to police, who are investigating.
“When we pulled the body out, it was clear to us that there would be no medical attention needed,” Diaferia said.
He said it took 4 minutes to arrive on the scene and about 10 minutes to remove the body.
Firefighters left the scene at about 1 p.m., he said.
