Kaneland board to discuss $1 million budget cuts

The Kaneland school board Monday will unveil $1 million of proposed spending cuts for the district’s 2011-12 budget.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the Milnamow Administrative Center on the Kaneland High School campus, Meredith and Keslinger roads, Maple Park.

In January, the board discussed a projected deficit in the budget and directed the district’s staff to come up with a deficit-free budget.

The details of the proposal have not been released yet.

A community forum on the cuts is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 22 at Harter Middle School in Sugar Grove.

Last year, the board adopted an operating budget of $46.8 million. This does into include debt payments.

The fiscal year begins July 1; state law requires the board to adopt a budget by Sept. 30.
