Wheeling High School tech program earns honor

Wheeling High School’s technology curriculum was recently granted the 2011 High School Program Excellence Award from the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association.

The association is a professional organization for technology, innovation, design and engineering educators, whose mission is to promote technological literacy for all, by supporting the teaching of technology. This distinguished award recognizes that Wheeling High School is in the forefront for technology instructional learning, both in the state and in the nation.

“The technology education program (at Wheeling High School) is a model for all to follow,” said Dr. Jerianne Taylor, Program Excellence chairwoman of the association.

Wheeling High School’s state nomination for the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association lead to the school’s Program Excellence Award. Becoming a Program of Excellence requires more than excellence in curriculum development, but also dedication, effort and love for students and teaching. Students are taught to be creative problem solvers, and envision how things should work, striving to determine if there are ways to make it better, faster, or more efficient.

Understanding technology and being able to use and manage it will be critically important to the work force of the future, the global community, and the earth’s continued ability to sustain life.
