Streamwood pledges careful review of red-light violations during blizzard

Streamwood police will use personal judgment on whether to enforce red-light infractions caught on camera during last week’s blizzard.

While Chicago police said they won’t enforce the tickets issued from red-light camera locations during the storm, as mounds of snow at corners lowered the accuracy of the cameras, Streamwood Deputy Chief James Keegan said his department will use special care to review any potential violators.

“I’m confident that if the weather played a factor in a vehicle violating the red light, the motorist was not cited,” he wrote via e-mail.

Keegan said police have already issued tickets to violators after careful review. Streamwood has had cameras in place since the summer of 2009 on Route 59 and Route 19.
