Addison Parks welcomes new gymnastics coordinator
The Addison Park District is pleased to welcome Ken Fontana to the community as the new gymnastics coordinator. Fontana is an Addison resident and coordinates gymnastics programs for more than 16 communities in the suburban Chicago area.
According to Kim Jay, Addison Park District's Athletic Supervisor, there are many talented gymnastics coaches around, however “I was impressed with Ken's experience and passion for gymnastics. His enthusiasm for the sport and his ability to coach kids of every experience level are a great benefit to the gymnastics program.”
Fontana was a gymnast at York High School in Elmhurst and continued competitively at Iowa State. His zeal for the sport led him to a career as a gymnastics coach once again in the Chicago suburbs. Fontana says that his coaching style allows him to place safety first, focus on the technical aspect of teaching fundamentals and attempt to give each participant plenty of turns.
The 2011 winter gymnastics season offers several new features, including three new participation levels for beginning tumblers, starting with Tumble Tykes, Tumbling Level 1 and Tumbling Level 2. Private one-on-one instruction is also now available to gymnasts of all ages and levels of ability.
