Neighbors ignored elderly couple

A short story with a moral... We are the oldest couple in our neighborhood. A nice neighborhood in a nice suburb. On the big snow day of Feb. 1-2, ours was the only driveway not shoveled or plowed.

There were lots of people outside working. Did one person check to see if we were OK? Did anyone offer to help? Our answer would have been no thanks, a plow was coming later, but no one bothered with us.

Even though we are not well liked on the block, it would have been nice, no human, of someone to see if we were safe. No one gave us a thought. In my daughter’s neighborhood in Wheaton, everyone helped each other. Here, nobody gave a darn about a couple in their 70s with 5 feet of snow in their driveway and no way to get out.

Sad, really.

Moral ... Is it too much trouble to take the time to check on a neighbor? I guess it is.
