February military hero

Round Lake Area Exchange Club has selected Marine Lance Cpl. Nicholas A. Rahn of Fox Lake as this month's Hometown Hero. Organizers said he was registered for the recognition by his parents, Steve and Jean Rahn of Fox Lake. Rahn is serving in Afghanistan and has been there since last September.

He's a 2008 Grant Community High School graduate who followed his father's footsteps when he enlisted in the Marines in May 2009. Ridge said Rahn will receive beef jerky, crackers, trail mix, cookies and chocolate and a personalized “Hanging with the Heroes” shirt and letters from Round Lake Area Unit District 116 students.

The Exchange Club will present the Rahn family with a plaque on behalf of the February honor at a meeting at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at Panera Bread in Round Lake Beach.

All military personnel serving overseas or in the United States from any of the Round Lake areas, Hainesville, Fox Lake or Ingleside qualify for the program.
