Lake in the Hills working on cul-de-sacs
All streets are plowed in Lake in the Hills, and public works crews are working on widening access through the village’s 106 cul-de-sacs, mostly in the western end of the village, said Lake in the Hills Public Works Director Fred Mullard.
“It’s been busy, the crews were working their tails off trying to keep everything open. It was a struggle, but we’re able to keep everything down to a manageable level,” Mullard said, adding that removing all the extra snow will be “a slow process.”
Crews were working to finish everything by Friday.
“We had everybody in public works out on the streets, people were out all night,” said Village President Ed Plaza.
Crews first focused on plowing the main roads, and blowing snow and high drifts hampered the snowplowing efforts, he said.
Some residents have complained that snowplows pushed the snow up to the end of their driveways, but that’s the only way to clean up, Plaza said. “That’s what’s expected, there is no other place to put the snow,” he said.
The police department performed a number of well-being checks on elderly residents, he said.
Village hall remained open on Wednesday. The police department’s Safety Education Center at 1109 Crystal Lake Road serves as a warming station if needed.
