Dist. 220 to host drug, alcohol forum
On Thursday, Feb. 3, the Barrington Area Drug Prevention Coalition will host a communitywide forum to discuss facts and concerns about the dangers of alcohol use by Barrington-area teenagers.
A follow-up lunchtime discussion will also be held the next day, Feb. 4.
On Feb. 3, a distinguished panel, including Superintendent Tom Leonard, local physicians and mental health professionals, legal experts, parents and students, will address various aspects of this issue as it pertains to Barrington Area Unit District 220.
Data from recent surveys of local student attitudes and behaviors regarding alcohol use will be discussed.
The program is free and open to the public. It begins at 7 p.m. in the Richard C. Johnson Auditorium at Barrington High School, 616 W. Main St. in Barrington.
For parents, an informal brown-bag lunch discussion of this topic facilitated by a Barrington United District 220 social worker will follow on Friday, Feb. 4, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Barrington Middle School-Prairie Campus, 40 E. Dundee Road in Barrington.
Participants can bring their own lunch; water and soft drinks will be provided.
