Namely helping to make Addison a better place for all our residents.Given the delicate balance between the need for revenue and over-taxing local businesses, what is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.Currently our sales tax is in line with or lower than most communities in the area. The Village of Addison#146;s present tax level is the means for providing the services that our residents have come to expect.Talking with your friends and neighbors, what seems to be their biggest public safety concern? Explain the concern as you see it, and discuss how you think it should be addressed.Neighborhood and roadway safety tend to come up most frequently. As Chair of the Public Health Safety and Judicial Committee, I work closely with the Addison Police Department to ensure that we maintain a strong police presence in the neighborhoods and on the main thoroughfares. Our police are some of the best trained and equipped in DuPage County.In these tight economic times, municipal budgets have to be prioritized. Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?Fortunately, the current Village Board anticipated the need to rein in spending some time ago. We advised administrative staff to carefully asses all personnel and budget line items. This resulted in a current municipal budget that is withstanding the economic downturn without disrupting any vital village services.What#146;s one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?I believe that we need to make a concerted effort to work with other local taxing bodies to eliminate duplication. Potentially resulting in more efficient use of local revenues.
