If yes, please explain: No. Although I have been charged and criticized for using sound judgement, and showing fiscal responsibility in the allocation of tax payer dollars.Candidate's Key Issues Key Issue 1 Ensuring all District 87 students are provided the best education, instruction, and opportunities to strengthen their character and foundation to enter and succeed as adults in the expanding global world work force.Key Issue 2 Maintaining fiscal responsibility in all spending choices with D87 taxpayer money.Key Issue 3 Guaranteeing all D87 students, teachers, staff a safe and productive work environment to grow and nurture their learning and education.Questions Answers What are your thoughts on the district's recent move to a standard curriculum across all four schools? It was long overdue. All children within D87 must receive the best available learning opportunity and curriculum. The level of rigor and rate of advancement taught for identical core classes must be consistent within and between each of the Four D87 high schools. The text books used need to be at the same level of difficulty to allow equitable learning opportunities for all students. The quality of education and the level of rigor taught should not be related to the geographic address the student lives at.How does the district maintain its momentum, budget-wise, after digging out of a huge deficit in recent years to essentially break even this year?Fiscal responsibility by maintaining solid control on the spending of D87 taxpayer dollars. Prioritizing costs and budget on needs rather than wants is a critical choice each board member must make. Reducing redundancy in overlapping programs between the schools, while increasing program opportunities by using technologies D87 already has in place needs to be expanded. With lights coming soon and turf installed last year, how do you maximize the benefits that Memorial Field at West provides to the district? Should anything be done to accommodate nearby residents who have complained about this? The turf and lights at Memorial Field is a very controversial subject and input from all members of the D87 community should be sought out and listened too, especially during these current tough economic times. In light of an incident at Glenbard South High School last year in which violent-sounding notes were passed among students, how do you balance parents' need to know with students' privacy when such situations arise? The present world we live in has shown that any threats of violence at our public schools must be acted on quickly and all threats must be taken seriously. The safety and security of D87 students and employees is the number 1 priority. The rights of individuals and the freedom of public speech and public communications need to be protected and respected, yet providing a safe environment is mandatory. How satisfied are you that your district is preparing students for the next stage in their lives, whether it be from elementary into high school or high school into college or full-time employment? What changes, if any, do you think need to be made?I feel D87 is doing a very good job in preparing our young adults for their future. However, D87 must increase our communication and continue to work even harder with D87 Feeder districts to insure the students entering D87 High Schools are fully prepared. Students should be proficient at the core requirements at an 8th grade/freshman level when they enter high school. D87 needs to focus our services on advancing all children entering D87 into higher levels of proficiency instead of using more and more of these resources on remediation of students unprepared for the rigor of high school.
