Importance of being self sustaining considering the Illinois state budget issues.Questions Answers How would you like to see the former Hubble Middle School property in downtown Wheaton redeveloped?I believe we should look at all possiblities, including use by the Wheaton Park district, selling the property for mixed use (combination commercial and residential) as well as other proposals. A lot of aspects to consider before making final decision. What are you thoughts about some wanting the Hubble property to become a Wheaton Park District facility? It is definitely something to consider but we must explore all avenues to determine what is best for the district. What is your view of the federal No Child Left Behind standards?Overall the standards were established with good intentions, however, I believe we should look at these standards and make improvements where we can.If elected to the school board, how would you address District 200's ongoing budgetary issues?I would work with the superintendant and other board members to provide a fresh approach to the district's budget. I believe that every aspect of the budget should be analyzed to determine a good faith estimate and whether appropriate restructuring should be made. I believe we should operate as conservative as possible, without limiting our high standards for education. If handled properly, I believe we can achieve a surplus in our budget, enabling greater flexibility and cash flow.Considering the problems that the state has had providing funding for school districts, should District 200 consider asking local voters to approve a property tax increase to raise additional money for the education fund? No, not at this time. I believe we have to explore all aspects of the budget first, to determine whether savings can be achieved. I am against automatically raising taxes as a first answer to balancing the district's budget.
