If yes, please explain: NOCandidate's Key Issues Key Issue 1 My number 1 campaign commitment is the continued fiscal responsibility of the Village budget. In these trying economic times, balancing revenue and expenses is an ever increasing challenge. We have a responsibility to our citizens and our taxpayers. Services such as police protection, road maintenance and repair, water distribution, etc. all need to be provided to our residents in a timely and professional manner. Budgetary constraints cannot compromise these services. Being an incumbent Trustee has allowed me to understand the complexity and challenges we face. The best way to help foster a healthy balance sheet in Lisle is to help foster a healthy economic climate. My professional and academic background has allowed me to help Lisle in the economic development and urban planning arenas. Areas of economic opportunity are all over Lisle, specifically in downtown Lisle and in the Ogden area corridor. A healthy local economy is a priority of the Board now and in the future.Key Issue 2 My number 2 campaign commitment is to continue with an open and transparent government in Lisle. The Village of Lisle had the Lucent/Navistar issue before it last year. There was a group that wanted the Zoning/Planning hearings (process) stopped. This is exactly the opposite of openness and transparency. Between the Village, the County, and the Attorney General#146;s office a successful outcome resulted. I am happy that the PROCESS was allowed to continue and that all sides had their say. Because of our close involvement and commitment to the process a least 2800 jobs are moving to Lisle. This is the best economic engine to come to Lisle in 20 years.Key Issue 3 My number 3 campaign goal is to promote the work of #145;community#146;. Lisle is more than just another suburb. The elected official#146;s responsibility is to work with all the groups in Lisle (from Kiwanis to the Historical Society and everything in between) to help foster a sense of community. From the Eyes to the Skies to the Summer Car Rallies in downtown Lisle, we are a single community made up of a menagerie of peoples. We are all 60532.Questions Answers What makes you the best candidate for the job?I am the best candidate for the job because of the following: I am committed to fiscal frugality while keeping a full range of services to the citizens; I understand economic development #8211; from small business to international companies (all of which make Lisle work); and I believe in the community of Lisle and all it stands for.I have the #145;hands on experience#146; of being an elected Trustee for the last four years. I have the experience of being a member of Lisle#146;s Economic Development Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals. I have participated in the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference which includes being on their Board of Directors as well as being the Director of the Planning Committee and a member on the Transportation Policy Committee and the Intergovernmental - Planning Committee.I have a dedication to serve the people of Lisle.Given the delicate balance between the need for revenue and over-taxing local businesses, what is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain. Our local sales tax revenue is driven from our share of taxes that is given to us from Springfield. We do not have any additional sales taxes levied in Lisle. We have the lowest sales tax of any community in DuPage County. The best thing that the citizens of Lisle can do is to spend their #145;hard earned#146; dollars in Lisle as part of the sales tax then flows back to Lisle. Every #145;little bit#146; helps with the budget.Talking with your friends and neighbors, what seems to be their biggest public safety concern? Explain the concern as you see it, and discuss how you think it should be addressed.Of continued concern is the proliferation of substance abuse that is not just a local problem, but a national problem. Lisle has been proactive in trying to minimize this problem by having one of the best police forces in the state. Programs such as DARE and the professional commitment of our police officers all help in minimize the proliferation of this concern in our community. In these tight economic times, municipal budgets have to be prioritized. Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?The tight economic times started three years ago. It has been my challenge and commitment, along with the rest of the board, to continue to provide the full range of services to our citizens. Revenues are shrinking but by creatively reviewing budgetary line items we have been successful in keeping Lisle in good financial health. Adjusting brush pickup and postponing the purchase of new vehicles are just two examples that we have implemented to be creative with our budget.What#146;s one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?On lighter note, I would like to see a community party in downtown Lisle on New Year#146;s Eve. A family friendly event with food and music would further foster the sense of community involvement and pride. We are all 60532.
