If you're a newcomer, how will you make a difference? If you're an incumbent, how have you made a difference?I support the work and actions of the current board. I would like to participate in continuing the current efforts to establish financal stability and program reinstitution. If elected, I will bring to the board an industrial background in product developmnt, project management, and budget control. The board has discussed closing a school to save money, but administrators recommend against it. What is your position and why?We have one closed school with which we are dealing. The administration analysis demonstrated that the closing of a second school would produce considerable disruption in school populations and programs following on the disruption from the Maplewood closing. While significant, the short term financial gains due to a second closing must be weighed against the student population disruptions. Also, this would give us two properties for sale to deal with. Thus, at this time I support the decision not to close a school for the 2011-2012 academic year.Did you support the resident bid to raise $4.3 million? If you were a part of the stalled parent-led bailout attempt, why did the initiative fail to get off the ground?Candidate did not respond.District 26 will continue to face budget reductions. Do you support further program cuts in order to balance the budget? If so, which programs would you reduce or eliminate? If not, how would you ensure the district's financial viability?Contract negotiations are now underway. The results of those negotiations will have a significant impact on the final budget. I would oppose further program cuts until all other alternatives have been explored and exhausted. How satisfied are you that your school district is adequately preparing students for the next stage in their lives? What changes, if any, do you think need to be made to ensure academic success? The actions taken to address the effects of prior deficit spending have been drastic. In the strategic plan, the administration has committed to measuring the effects of those actions. Surveys and standard test comparisons are and will be used. I believe that primary education is a critical buidling block in preparing a student for future growth. If elected, my primary goal will be to ensure the quality of the educational experience for the district's students during this financial restructuring.
