Mt. Prospect cancels village board; garbage pickup delayed

Mount Prospect has canceled Tuesday's village board meeting, and will postpone the police and fire commission meeting until Feb. 15 in anticipation of the snowstorm blowing into the area.

No garbage or recyclables will be picked up Wednesday, either. Pickup for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday customers will be pushed back a day. Normal collection resumes next week.

Meanwhile, the Mount Prospect Public Works Department will work around the clock, in two shifts of 12 hours each, until snow is cleared. Officials ask residents to limit any unnecessary travel. Highways and collector streets will be plowed more frequently than side streets. See map on mountprospect.org to identify collector streets nearest your home or place of business.

&bul; Village code prohibits parking on all village streets for 24 hours after 2-inch snowfall. The police department will ticket offenders.

&bul; It is unlawful to shovel, pile, plow, or throw snow onto village streets.

&bul; Mount Prospect residents can sign up for emergency notifications at mountprospect.org/.
