Pohl: Six Palatine Dist. 15 teachers earn National Board Certification

Congratulations are in order for six Palatine Township Elementary District 15 teachers who have earned their National Board Certification.

The voluntary assessment program is designed to recognize effective and accomplished teachers who meet high standards based on what teachers should know and be able to do.

To achieve the advanced teaching credential, candidates complete 10 assessments that are reviewed by trained teachers in their certificate areas.

District 15 now employs a total of 84 National Board Certified Teachers. The board of education earlier this month recognized the six teachers making up the 2010 class. They are:

ŸRita Chavez, first-grade bilingual teacher at Lake Louise

ŸBrooke Nyquist, first-grade bilingual teacher at Lake Louise

ŸLauren Lukowski, first-grade bilingual teacher at Gray M. Sanborn

ŸGrace Rios, second-grade bilingual teacher at Gray M. Sanborn

ŸSusan Esbrook, fourth-grade teacher at Gray M. Sanborn

ŸLaura Turek, seventh-grade science teacher at Walter R. Sundling Junior High
