Da Vinci Academy students shine at chess tournament

The Da Vinci Academy chess team participated in the Knights of the Forest tournament in Des Plaines on Saturday, Jan. 22.

Da Vinci, an independent prekindergarten to eighth grade school in Elgin, placed third as a team in the junior high category. It is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States.

Six Da Vinci students received individual honors: Christian Turk of Shorewood won first place in kindergarten; Max Martin of Geneva placed eighth in the elementary section; Dylan Martin placed fifth in the junior high section; Nicholas Chen of Batavia won first place in sixth grade; Dan Schulz of Elgin won third place in eighth grade; and Kenneth Martin of Geneva placed third in the junior high open section.
