Dist. 57 must live with what it has
District 57 is now contemplating raising taxes again. A few years back when the district was trying to raise taxes and were unsuccessful they mentioned they would have to spend down their surplus in order to get the tax increases they sought.
Well, I wonder, are they now broke? Have they successfully squandered the surplus they had so they can get the tax hike they now seek? Well, if they get the tax hike they now seek will they then squander that to get another tax hike?
After looking at my last property tax bill it appears District 57 has already squeezed more money out of me. Somebody should remind District 57 that the state of Illinois just increased payroll taxes by 67 percent and I seem to have heard somewhere that new money would be going to public schools. Maybe we in District 57 aren’t going to get any of that new state money. I don’t know but maybe District 57 board members do.
District 57 should not be squandering their surpluses and should live with the money they have. If the district does not live with the tax money they already are receiving they create an endless cycle of seeking tax hike after tax hike. Property owners are already tapped out and if district board members don’t get it, residents who attend the next District 57 board meeting should bring along their property tax bill as evidence.
