Geneva man charged in high-speed chase

A Geneva man was arrested early Saturday after leading police on an extended high-speed chase for more than 20 miles through Kane County.

Kane County sheriff’s deputies discovered fresh tire marks leading to the overturned vehicle roughly 22 miles from the location where Bryan J. Banbury was originally pulled over, according to authorities.

Banbury of the 1500 block of Sherman Avenue in Geneva was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding, disobeying a police officer, reckless driving and DUI, according to authorities.

Sheriff’s deputies spotted the 30-year-old, who was wanted for questioning regarding a domestic incident, in a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer at 12:18 a.m. Saturday behind a restaurant on the 1400 block of North Orchard Road in Aurora. Banbury refused to exit his vehicle and after a brief conversation with deputies, fled the scene, according to Lt. Pat Gengler of the sheriff’s police.

Police chased Banbury west on Galena Boulevard toward Sugar Grove and east on Route 56 before they lost him when he left the roadway through a field, authorities said.

Deputies spotted his car heading north on Route 31 from Interstate 88 several minutes after losing sight of him.

He then lead police through Batavia and turned west onto Main Street, where they lost his trail a second time near Green Road, according to Gengler.

Police found Banbury inside his overturned SUV after following fresh tire marks leaving the roadway on Main Street west of South Lorang Road in Elburn, authorities said.

He was transported to Delnor Hospital where he was treated and released.

Banbury is due in court Jan. 31.
