Bears-Packers flashback: Nov. 7, 1999

Historical replay: Bears at Packer, Nov. 7, 1999

Sweetness prevails:

Playing with heavy hearts following the passing of all-time great running back Walter Payton earlier in the week, some credit the spirit of Sweetness for allowing the Bears to sneak out of Lambeau Field with a 14-13 victory.

It sure looked like the result would be different when the Packers drove deep into Bears territory as time wound down to set up a short field goal attempt by Ryan Longwell. But Bears lineman Bryan Robinson somehow got enough lift to get a hand on the 28-yard attempt and the Bears picked up their first win against the Packers in years.

After the game, Robinson was still amazed that he was able to get up for the block, convinced he had gotten a little help.

“I think Walter Payton actually picked me up,” Robinson said, “because I know I can't jump that high.”
