One dead in West Chicago traffic accident

One person was killed in a traffic accident about 3:40 a.m. Wednesday near Powis Road and Harvester Drive in West Chicago, authorities said.

West Chicago Fire Chief Ron Ackerman said firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 3:41 a.m. and found a small white pickup truck wedged under the rear of the semitrailer truck at the intersection.

The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the larger vehicle was not injured, police said.

Police would not identify the victim pending notification of next of kin.

Powis was closed to traffic for about five hours after the accident, police dispatchers said.

Accident reconstruction teams were called to the scene before firefighters extracted the body from the pickup truck, Ackerman said.
