Lake in the Hills man charged with hit-and-run

A Lake in the Hills man faces a slew of charges after he hit a mailbox and a parked car while driving drunk, then left the scene, police said.

The man hit the car with such force that he pushed it into the garage, causing more than $500 in damage to the car and the garage door, according to police.

Around 11:55 p.m. Friday, Lake in the Hills police pulled over Shawn S. Clark, 38, of the 10000 block of Viewpoint Drive, shortly after the crash, they said. It had been reported by a witness who provided a license plate number and a description of Clark’s vehicle.

According to police, there was open alcohol in Clark’s Ford F-150 pickup truck. After Clark failed field sobriety tests, he was arrested and taken to the police station.

Clark was charged with driving under the influence, driving over the legal blood-alcohol limit, improper lane usage, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, illegal transportation of alcohol, no insurance and no valid registration, police said.

“He pretty much ran the gamut,” Sgt. Eric Decker said.

Clark is still facing an October 2010 charge of driving on a suspended license, according to McHenry County court records.

He was taken to the McHenry County jail, where he was still being held Monday morning. He will have to post $600 to be released. His next court date is Thursday.

Clark’s request to be represented by a public defender was denied, court records show. A working phone number for Clark could not be located.
