The fallout of the Cold War’s end
The two mega nuclear powers in the world, formally ending the Cold War that lasted for more than 42 years, have left a disastrous mortal legacy ravaging the globe for generations.
In the Middle East, Africa, South America, and on our doorstep in Mexico, the United States and Russia have advertently sponsored the overthrow of governments, with many coups leading to genocide and anarchy.
Leftover arsenals, its surplus infrastructure, with our beckoning military budget and their fiscal needs, both countries pitilessly produce arms and firepower for anyone who can afford to pay for them.
Whether it’s diamonds, drugs, oil or any other commodity, nothing’s off the market. Intramural political seduction is secondary now that former enemies are somewhat aligned to keep their nations intact. Apparently no intervention short of ending arms sales around the world can terminate these tragedies.
