Prospect has BG seeing Redding
Terry Redding was the man of the hour … or at least the man of the second and fourth quarters in Saturday's Mid-Suburban East boys basketball game at Prospect's Jean Walker Fieldhouse.
The 6-foot-5 senior helped pull Prospect from a 10-point deficit by scoring 12 of his 15 first-half points in the second quarter. Redding scored all 9 of his second-half points in the fourth quarter to spark the Knights to a 67-59 victory over Buffalo Grove.
Redding finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds, where the Knights dominated with a 48-26 margin.
“The whole team was hitting the glass,” Redding said. “It was our best rebounding game of the season.”
“We only kept in the game thanks to our rebounding,” Prospect coach John Camardella said. “I was happy with our work inside.”
After hitting a 3-point basket and another from close range, Redding completed a 3-point play with 6:39 left in the game that put Prospect ahead for the first time at 49-47.
The Knights (9-6, 4-1) never looked back.
Grant DePalma hit a 3, and Matt Loebbaka (11 points) scored from underneath off an assist from Redding to put the Knights on top 54-48 with 5:30 remaining. They held off the Bison (11-7, 3-2) by making 8-of-14 free throws down the stretch.
Redding scored on three successive possessions to open the second quarter, cutting BG's lead to 17-13 with 5:53 left in the half. By halftime, the Bison's lead had shrunk to 32-30, despite Sam Wacker's 11 and Nick Prus' 9 first-half points.
“Coming out in the second half, we wanted to make every shot they took a hard one,” Redding said.
NG stretched its lead to 46-41 after three quarters after baskets by Wacker and Alex Fritz in the final 1:14 of the quarter.
“We got away from what was making us successful,” BG coach Ryan O'Connor said. “We made some adjustments, but we didn't execute on the floor.
“I'm disappointed,” he said. “For long segments of the game, we did exactly what we planned, and then we fragmented.”
Mike LaTulip finished with 18 points, including 9-of-11 from the line, for the Knights, and Wacker led the Bison with 16. Prus scored 15 for BG.
