Ex-bank employee charged with taking $56K from Schaumburg workplace

A 33-year-old former employee of a Schaumburg bank turned herself in on Monday on charges she deposited more than $56,000 in checks from the bank into a personal account.

Maridee Batibot, of the 1900 block of Governors Lane in Hoffman Estates, appeared in Rolling Meadows court Tuesday after police charged her with felony theft, Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said. Her bail was set at $20,000.

Batibot worked at HSBC Bank at 1310 Tower Road in Schaumburg and handled customer payments, Nebl said. From January 2009 through June 2010 police believe she altered 31 checks and had more than $56,000 in funds from those checks deposited in her account, Nebl said.

Bank officials contacted police in September after records showed missing money, Nebl said. It's not clear when Batibot stopped working at the bank, but police believe she is currently unemployed, Nebl said.
