'Best field trip ever' at history center
Thank you to the individuals and businesses who donated to the Center for History in 2010. These contributions helped the center provide its education and preservation services to the public.
Teachers, scout leaders, and organizations scheduled programs in 2010 which were presented to over 3,600 individuals who learned about Wheaton history and related topics. Already fifteen groups have scheduled programs for 2011. The education continued by assisting researchers and provided reproductions of our historic photos. Additionally, current and former Wheaton residents donated artifacts and archival materials to the Center to be shared with future generations.
The faith of these educators and donors in the mission of the Center is testimony of the value of the services provided by the Center for History. What the center has accomplished for the community since it was established in 1980 can never be replaced. We hear so many positive comments about the center that we are going to work diligently to keep it alive.
This is a huge task and we hope the community offers to help. Education was and still is the focus for the center. We believe everyone understands the value of education and especially look forward to continuing to teach our youth. They get so excited when they participate in one of our programs. As one student told her mother, “This was the best field trip ever.”
We never stop teaching. I invite you to learn more about Wheaton and the Center for History by attending a program or visiting the museum.
