Search narrows for Lisle police chief
The final two candidates vying to become Lisle's next police chief met Thursday with village officials.
Mayor Joe Broda said it was the second round of interviews for both finalists, but he would not identify who is in the running.
Broda said the two finalists were selected from an initial field of seven.
“Once we make a decision we then begin negotiations, which will take some time, so we don't have any announcements yet,” Broda said.
Deputy Chief Jim Kosatka, a department veteran of more than 30 years, is serving as acting chief. He was appointed in late November when former Chief Michael Damico announced his December retirement after 37 years with the village.
Officials said their search for Damico's successor would begin within the police department and then expand to an external search if no appropriate candidates applied.
Broda credits Damico with bringing the department up to modern standards and implementing programs such as community policing, the canine drug enforcement unit and participation with the sheriff's department Narcotics Team.
