Food bank getting a boost of 350,000 meals

Kraft Food's “Huddle to Fight Hunger” campaign is giving Northern Illinois Food Bank enough money to provide 350,000 meals.

The $50,000 donation will be presented Friday afternoon.

Kraft's goal was to provide 20 million meals nationwide to food banks via the Feeding America hunger-relief charity. Northern Illinois Food Bank belongs to Feeding America.

The campaign included special product coupons, text message voting, Facebook votes and in-store promotions that began Aug. 22. It wraps up at the Kraft-sponsored Fight Hunger Bowl Sunday in San Francisco.

The store promotions were at stores that belong to the Central Grocers grocery wholesaler.

The St. Charles-based food bank provides food to charity pantries and other anti-hunger programs in 12 northern Illinois counties.
