Note references to God and Creator

When I read Theodore M. Utchen's Dec. 21 letter, I had to agree that there is no mention of God in the Constitution.

However, he obviously did not read the Declaration of Independence closely enough; “When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Note the references to God and Creator. I don't think it requires any more explanation. I also find it interesting, that in the beginning, Congress opened with a prayer. And to this day, most politicians are sworn in with their hand on a Christian Bible. Perhaps things aren't as cut and dried as Mr. Utchen makes them out to be.
